Ganeshgudi : A Bird Paradise - Abhi Madangeri

Most of the participants were traveling for the first time to North Karnataka and they were totally clueless about the place and its offerings. Everything that would unfold in the next two days was completely new and there was childlike excitement in the bus. We hit the bed as soon as we crossed the busy city traffic and left the noise and lights of city behind.

Birds for Beginners: Part 3 - Abhi Madangeri

In the last part we read about the birds and their habitat, in this chapter we will learn to recognize and identify them. When my friends started joining me on my trips, they could identify only a few birds like Crow, Sparrow, Peafowl, Jungle Fowl and a couple more. For my best friend who joined me on most of my bird outings, every bird he saw was a Gubbi (Sparrow in Kannada). He would spot and show them to me saying, Orange gubbi, Yellow gubbi, Brown gubbi, Large Black gubbi, Small green gubbi, Red eyed gubbi, White bellied gubbi, Long tailed gubbi and so on. Though his unique way of naming the birds was funny, it was partially right in some way and you will soon know why.

Birds for Beginners: Part 2 - Abhi Madangeri

Habitat is natural home or environment which supports life of a particular species. Each and every habitat is unique in itself and thus it supports birds which are dependent on the resources available in that particular habitat for survival. Knowledge about the habitat helps in understanding the bird life it supports. Though most of the habitats listed below are found everywhere, but this article mostly covers birds and birding areas in and around Karnataka.
